92-93 Points! A fresh and solid TL with currants and cherries. Hints of chocolate and spice. Medium to full body. Juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Lovely richness and depth. A blend of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot and 6% petit verdot. - James Suckling
92-94 Points! Dark cocoa, flowers, tobacco leaf, and spicy currants show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, lush, deep, and loaded with chocolate coated plums, spice, and cherries. There is richness to the layers of fruit on the mid-palate, and in the finish. The wine sports a new name as it is now known as only Tronquoy. Lots of plums, blue and black fruits, earth, chocolate, and hints of earth all emerge from the 2022 Château Tronquoy, a full-bodied, pure, powerful Saint-Estèphe with impressive tannins and a great finish. It shows more floral and red-fruited nuances with time in the glass, and this is clearly a beautiful wine in the making. The history of Château Tronquoy began in 1791 with François Tronquoy, who was a visionary in his actions and nonconformist at heart. This spirited founder has created the second oldest vineyard of Saint-Estèphe.
For 3 centuries, this cru has been cultivating its singularity in a form of impertinence. The Bouygues family, owner of the estate since 2006, wanted to pay tribute to this past and highlight its values of excellence and innovation by freeing Tronquoy from conventions. In 2022, Tronquoy-Lalande has become Tronquoy and its label now adorns a unique blue color. As for the wine, it remained faithful to its identity: proposing a rare polyvalence and a great freshness. It combines a seductive youth and a remarkable ageing potential.
Winemaker Notes: The vintage promises to be extremely accomplished, in a pure and clean style, perfectly reflecting the best of what Tronquoy's terroir can produce. With a remarkable concentration and complexity on the palate, the fruit is very present and brings a generous note. Particularly harmonious, the finish stretches out in lenght. In the tradition of the most successful wines of the last decades, such as 2010 and 2016, 2022 marks a new and exmplary chapter in the history of this wine.
