Straightaway is Portland, Oregon made, by a couple of cocktail enthusiasts who started batching cocktails for family and friends that became so popular they decided to make them for everyone. They make from scratch all the syrups and bitters in house and juice fresh lemons and limes instead of using concentrate or artificial flavorings like some of their competitors. They are perfectly balanced and never too sweet, which is often our biggest complaint in the category. There are 6 different drinks in the set, some are popular classics, and some are lesser known modern classics that are fawned over by cocktail nerds.

The Cosmos- Their rendition of a Cosmopolitan, it’s the easiest drinker in the set, composed of vodka, a house-made cranberry liqueur and a mix of lemon, lime and orange juices.
Margarita- Still the reigning champion of cocktails in the US, Straightaway’s margarita is jazzed up with reposado tequila, a splash of mezcal and just enough mango habañero syrup to be intriguing yet still balanced in sweetness with just a hint of spice. Just pour over ice.
Paper Plane- The Paper Plane is the modern classic that all the cocktail geeks in the know call for at their favorite speakeasy. This rye whiskey-based drink is refreshing and can appeal even to the novice whiskey drinker’s palate. Generally made with Aperol and a charming amaro called Nonino, they do a great job balancing the bittersweet flavors with the lemon to keep the sips coming.
Lintik- A lemon drop with more complexity; this one is gin-based with lemon juice and bitters it’s a crowd pleaser yet a simple and refreshing no-brainer.
Old Fashioned- The Old Fashioned has truly come into its own as the most requested whiskey drink at cocktail bars around the country. Straightaway puts a hint of Pacific Northwest into it with Fir bitters blended with Tennessee Whiskey and a touch of sugar. This one would love a fresh orange peel and a nice big rock but best of all the restraint they take in not over complicating a perfectly simple classic is what I love best.
Negroni- To round out the set a straightforward, bitter-sweet aperitivo seems like a great choice. Straightway balances the gin and vermouth with a cochineal extract to mimic the Campari. This drink is a meal starter for those in the know and with strong roots in Italian drinking culture, this rendition is a great way to dip you toe in to test the waters.
