This wine is an assemblage of some of the estate's top vineyards blended with fruit from surrounding non-Grosse Lagen sites. It has charming aromatics, rich pear, Meyer lemon, and beguiling floral spice. The palate balances viscosity and ripeness with juicy, mouthwatering acidity. The lack of botrytis and the sterling minerality clarify this affordable bottling. 93 Points! The 2018 Riesling Vulkan opens with a pure, fresh and herbal, slightly flinty and still yeasty bouquet of crushed stones. Lush and round on the palate, this is a bone-dry, linear, fresh and elegant, very pure and grippy Riesling from Odinstal. The finish is salty, piquant and tight. From more than 100-year-old vines, the 2023 Ürziger Würzgarten In der Kranklei Riesling Auslese Alte Reben (Gold Capsule) is from a 2.2-hectare plot in the south-facing, terraced cru on red slate. Deep, clear and pure on the fragrant yet intense and refreshing nose that shows lemongrass, ginger and herbal as well as saline slate aromas. Very generous and lush yet also refined and filigreed on the palate, this is a savory and stimulating saline Auslese with fine, crystalline acidity and candied lemon and grapefruit aromas on the long finish. There are 140 grams per liter of residual sugar, which do not taste extraordinarily sweet but round and generous. The grapes were picked in early October with 15% of botrytis. 8% stated alcohol. The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) was picked as early as September 20 at 115° Oechsle and with 20% botrytis berries and opens with a generously intense and concentrated bouquet with ripe, rich and lush yellow fruit and lemon aromas intertwined with flinty as well saline notes of crushed slate. Generous yet refined and very delicate on the palate, this is a fruit-intense and enormously saline and refined Auslese with highly delicate acidity and the finesse and fleshy fruit from 30- to 40-year-old vines raised on single poles in the second étage of the cru that was never consolidated. There has never been any drought stress here. In 2023, there was a low yield of just 20 hectoliters per hectare, and 500 liters were made (plus 30 liters of Trockenbeerenauslese). 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. The idea here is to make a village wine, basically, though it’s sold and marketed as a Gutswein or Estate bottled basic wine. The Estate wine combines the two major soils that dominate the holdings for the estate, giving the drinker a look into what Dönnhoff is all about. The basic wine is a calling card and thus Cornelius wants to make statement.

The geology of the middle Nahe is notably shaped by its eons-old clay slate formations and rich volcanic soils. The concentration of porphyry and melaphyre stone in and around the old Oberhausen vineyards – Kieselberg and Felsenberg, help provide the perfect berry base for Gutsriesling.

Flavors of crushed rocks, salts and lime zest drag into the glass, and the wine, once on the palate, is full of energy and very fine raisin, even blueberry and wax leaf aromas. This beautifully balanced and silky Domprobst Spätlese is full of finesse and reveals a playful, irresistible character with perfectly ripe fruit that is like an idea of fruit rather than material on the palate. This is a subtle stunner and one day will probably be even finer than the gorgeous Himmelreich Spätlese. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. 98+ Points! The 2021 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Eiswein shows a slatey nose with apricot, physalis and lychee as well as broken slate aromas. Lush and sweet as well as refined and saline on the palate, this is a rich and generously fruity but very delicate and balanced Eiswein with fine, crystalline acidity cutting through dense and fleshy apricot fruit. This Hubertuslay Eiswein is from the first run and is much sweeter and richer than the "generic," possibly more "typical" Eiswein from the second and third run off the press, which makes the wine crystalline, refined, elegant and sharp in a positive sense.
