It has a medium to deep ruby color and classic nose of cedar, black and red currants, blackcurrant bud, warm chocolate and pencil shavings with hints of red cherries, iron and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, lush and classically styled in the mouth, it has very ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to lift that lush fruit, finishing long. An overtone of tobacco, vanilla and milled white pepper is a fragrant thread winding through ripe and juicy black cherry and plum fruit, framed by refined, supple tannins. The 2016 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Millésime from Philippe Gonet is more autolytic and reductive than the Signature Brut Blanc de Blancs, evoking aromas of pastry, baked bread, white peach and citrus oil. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and delicate, it’s charming with a fleshy core of fruit and a versatile open-knit character on the finish.
