97 Points! Another gem of a wine from this estate, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate includes 1% Petit Verdot and spent 20 months in French oak. It has a darker red and blue-slanted fruit profile as well as some classic tobacco, scorched earth, and graphite aromatics. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with a seamless, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, building tannins, and a pure, focused style that will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age. 96+ Points! The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate is very close in quality to the 29 Estate bottling, with perhaps a touch more concentration and tannin. There's less herbal nuance to the fruit, leaving black cherries to take the lead, backed by cedary oak and hints of dusty earth, while the palate is full-bodied and structured, leaving little doubt regarding this wine's potential longevity. 96 Points! A mentholated freshness introduces the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino, as a vibrant wave of crushed cherries, mint leaf, clove, and dusty roses make up it's absolutely gorgeous bouquet. This is silky and enveloping, yet lifted and full of energy, with crunchy red berry fruits that leave a crackle primary concentration towards the close. It finishes pretty saline and spicy in character, leaving edgy tannins that mingle with a residual bump of acidity that maintains a wonderfully fresh sensation as tart cranberry notes fade. This is one of the most exciting young renditions of Voliero I have ever tasted. It captivates with a precision and spry personality while holding depths of complexity in reserve. Pale silver/yellow in hue and coming from Mount Pisgah Polk County, the 2023 Chardonnay Freedom Hill Vineyard turns up the intensity with notes of lime oil, crushed flint, starfruit, and subtle spice. Pisgah Polk County pours a jeweled red hue and is pure and inviting, with elegant, layered notes of raspberry coulis, dark stones, pressed flowers, and fresh mossy earth. The palate is medium-bodied, with lovely elegance and a saturating feel, refined tannins, and a long finish. Drink 2025-2040. Medium-bodied, it has a vibrant energy and savory drive on the palate, with notes of salty earth and tea leaf, a light umami richness, ripe tannins, and evenly balanced acidity. 96+ Points! The 2023 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett #3 opens with a clear and coolish, very precise and flinty as well as vegetal bouquet of dark, crushed slate. Very elegant and mouthwatering on the palate, with lively, mineral acidity and stimulating salinity, this is an almost dry-tasting Domprobst Kabinett due to its continuous mineral character and grippy phenols. The wine is full of finesse yet still discreet in its hedonistic compounds. The Domprobst is the aristocrat of the Mosel Kabinett world yet also offers a certain charm. Very subtle and long, this will be a classic in a decade, especially when served with very fine dishes. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. 96 Points! The 2023 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett opens with substantial depth and a brilliant bouquet of wet slate. The fruit is intense but not dominating, thanks to the flintiness and savoriness of the Himmelreich terroir. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, dense and complex Kabinett with ripe, elegant and juicy fruit intertwined with very fine phenols and an ethereal slate thread that gives this Kabinett an enormous length and animation. This will be a superb gastronomic wine after a decade of bottle age, although the 2023 already drinks beautifully today. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. The 2020 John Riddoch Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon is supple and red fruited, layered with an abundance of cassis, bramble, black cherry, creme de menthe inflections and lashings of soft garden leaf herbs. In the mouth, the tannins are seamless, pliable and flexible. They splay over and around the fruit, shaping it in an ebb and flow of texture.
