The 2022 Château Barde-Haut checks in as the usual blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was brought up 50 to 60% new barrels, with the balance in once- and twice-used barrels, with a small amount in tank. Gorgeous black raspberries, blue fruits, smoky tobacco, violets, and crushed stone all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a silky, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s not far off the style of the 2020 (and 2010), and is a rocking little Saint-Emilion to enjoy over the coming 20+ years. - Jeb Dunnuck

95 Points! The 2022 Chateau Barde Haut is made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with powerful scents of baked red and black plums and menthol, leading to hints of tobacco leaf and incense. Rich and explosive, the 2022 offers up copious notes of blueberry jam, crème de cassis, lavender, mint and licorice, with pretty jasmine overtones that add exotic beauty. 98 Points! The captivating Baricci 2019 Brunello is another gorgeous wine from this storied producer. It offers enticing scents of woodland berry, new leather, camphor, pipe tobacco and dog rose while the full-bodied, elegantly structured palate delivers juicy Morello cherry, red plum, licorice and cake spice before a flinty mineral finish. A backbone of tight, refined tannins and fresh acidity provide support and racy tension. While it’s still youthfully austere, it already shows great balance and precision. - Kerin O' Keefe

97 Points! The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully inward and darkly floral with an herbal tinge and hints of crushed ashen stone that give way to vivid black raspberry and exotic spice. This is juicy and spry, with racy cherry-berry fruit and stimulating acidity that creates a sensation of boundless energy, even as a saturation of primary concentration settles in toward the close. 97 Points! Baricci shines with this stunning 2019, from the estate’s south- to southeast-facing plots at 300 metres on the Montosoli hill. It is still far too young, but everything is in place for a long and gratifying life. Preliminary cedar and vanillin nuances melt into sumptuous cherry, and there's a pronounced stony, mineral edge along with juicy blood orange to impart further intricacy. Refined and graceful with layered substance, it has long, chalky, perfectly ‘al dente’ tannins and sappy, mouthwatering acidity. - Decanter Magazine

91 Points! A vivid mix of wild strawberries, roses, hints of cinnamon and crushed rocks captivates as the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino comes to life in the glass. This is silky and refined, with depths of ripe cherry-berry fruits laced with minerals and spice that creates a sweet and sour interplay. The medium-length finish resonates on red currants and inner floral perfumes, as well as a gentle tug of tannin. 91 Points! Consumers take note: Barnett's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District is more complex and structured than the MMV bottling yet also less expensive. Sage and bay leaf join black cherries and a hint of vanilla on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is soft and easy drinking but with decent backbone and length and plentiful soft, dusty tannins on the finish. Assembled from three different parcels (Catarina, Green Acre and Novillero), Barnett's 2022 Chardonnay Sangiacomo Vineyard is all barrel fermented, with this vintage's proportion of malolactic fermentation at 42%. There's a gentle toastiness evident, serving to elegantly frame the pear and melon fruit on the nose. The wine is medium to full-bodied in the mouth, round and slightly creamy in texture, with a harmonious, easygoing finish. This is a full-bodied red with a tight yet silky structure. Some black fruit and dark olives in the middle with nice length. Sustainable. 100% cabernet sauvignon. 96+ Points! The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Colledilà opens to dark fruit, but perhaps more significantly, you get a slate-like mineral note that adds focus. That mineral note appears in all these beautiful Gran Selezione wines from vintner Francesco Ricasoli, but in the case of this bottle, it adds a dark or slightly brooding personality. Sangiovese 60%, Cabernet sauvignon 25%, Merlot 15%. After racking, all three grapes are fermented in steel tanks for two weeks. Ageing takes place over 8-9 months in tonneaux of second and third passage. 

A blend of mostly Sangiovese with smaller components of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Barone Ricasoli 2022 Antico Feudo is an immediately accessible and charming Tuscan red. This bottle offers great versatility (at a great price point) to match ragù and pasta or even a simple burger and fries. 96 Points! This rich, pure red is generous in its flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, fruitcake, earth and spices. The tannins are well-integrated and overall this is harmonious and long, echoing the lush fruit and spice elements. This is all about elegance and finesse, making it approachable now. Merlot. From the importer: Barrialto Sobre Lías Santa Brigida, bottled from a single 500L butt, is a blend of two different albariza soil sub-types. Palomino grapes from Pago Balbaína Baja near Jerez (albariza tosca cerrada soils), with grapes from Pago Maína, near Sanlúcar, (albariza barajuelas soil). Rafa says that the tosca cerrada albrariza lends the blend balance and fitness, while the barrajuela albariza lends a dry minerality and herbal salinity. Each wine Rafa produces is a unique snapshot of a place, time, and soil type in his vineyards in the Jerez region. As a result, production of these authentic treasures is in the hundreds of bottles, and they are exceptionally limited, coming to the US market in tiny allocations.

Hand-harvested palomino grapes (from 40+ year-old vines) are de-stemmed and pressed, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts from the vineyard without temperature control in a 500L ex-Manzanilla cask. After fermentation, it rests for nine months on its fine lees with bâtonnage in the same barrels before being racked into a stainless steel tank to settle before bottling unfined, with only a light paper filtration and minimal additional sulfur used before bottling.

96 Points! Harvested from just the home block with a small addition of wine from Leongatha, this spent 14 months in 40% new barrels. There is a breezy freshness to the red fruit on the nose alongside swirling, darker fruits of the forest which emerge, perfumed with iron-oxide and petrichor. The palate is concentrated, brimming with juicy fruit and a kind of urgency. There is a lick of liquorice bitterness and tannins that show density and finesse towards the finish. Fine acidity makes this precise and totally mouthwatering. In a league of its own in the Bass Phillip stable: self-assured and exquisitely balanced. 96 Points! Both powerful and ethereal, this elegant, smoky, sour-cherry-imbued wine fills the palate with tangy, spicy flavors wrapped in grippy tannins and buoyed by nervy acidity. Plump blackberries, baked blueberries, black currants and cedar all add to the compelling flavors. 94 Points! The Rutherford Reserve leads with black fruits, toffee and oak spices. Full-bodied with ripe sweet blackberry and black cherry notes, building tannins that are a bit granular. The wine has plenty of grip and is built on 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Petit Verdot, aged 21 months in 80% new French oak. It is nicely balanced with a pH of 3.64 and is one not easy to put down. - Decanter Magazine

92 Points! The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is packed with dark fruit, chocolate, grilled herbs, leather and incense. In 2020, winemaker Trevor Durling added 10% Petit Verdot to add body, a decision that paid off handsomely. This is a very fine wine for the year.
