From 80+ year-old vines...Another Library Release, 2017 is an especially compelling vintage at this address. The inherent “ coolness” of the year imparts to the wine a bracing reserve that holds the insurgent sweetness of the fruit in check and provides a welcome sense of proportion and shape to what would otherwise be a powerhouse. 93 Points! The 2018 Riesling Vulkan opens with a pure, fresh and herbal, slightly flinty and still yeasty bouquet of crushed stones. Lush and round on the palate, this is a bone-dry, linear, fresh and elegant, very pure and grippy Riesling from Odinstal. The finish is salty, piquant and tight. A gorgeous wine that was bottled with no more than 29 milligrams per liter of total SO2. Tasted in Odinstal in December 2019.  - Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com

From the winery: The Southernmost vineyard in Oregon, this property nearly straddles the California border. Alluvial galets stud the silty, sandy soil that is riddled with serpentine. High in nickel and magnesium, serpentine creates a caustic environment where Riesling becomes concentrated, and usually high in tartaric acid. Farming practices are dry-farmed, sustainable, while working our way toward full organic farming.

After skin contact, the lot is placed into the press along with the stems (reserved from destemming), and we begin a press cycle of 4-6 hours. Using gravity, the free run and press juice is collected into a chilled, stainless steel tank where it will settle for 24 hours, after which we rack into Austrian Cask, cement egg and barrel with fine and heavy lees. Native fermentation takes place in egg, and neutral barrel. After nine months of lees contact, the wine is racked and blended. No cold stabilization. Given the residual sugar in each wine, we cross-flow the wine before bottling.

96 Points! The aromas of dried flowers and peaches are very cool and delicate. In fact they are only just beginning to unfurl. Super-focused and salty on the very concentrated, medium-bodied palate. Barely off dry, also thanks to the gigantic minerality that powers the elegant steamroller that is the finish. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. - JamesSuckling.com

95 Points! The 2023 Riesling Pfaffenberg has subtle citrus and a darker aspect that disappears on the palate. The body is zesty, driven and energetic, with stony determination and citrus wings, grapefruit, tangerine and all the tangy stuff. Despite this soaring nature, this is anchored in stone. 93 Points! A medium sweet Spätlese from the Rheingau icon Weil. This late-picked Riesling shows the ethereal clarity and power the variety can have. This wine is an assemblage of some of the estate's top vineyards blended with fruit from surrounding non-Grosse Lagen sites. It has charming aromatics, rich pear, Meyer lemon, and beguiling floral spice. The palate balances viscosity and ripeness with juicy, mouthwatering acidity. The lack of botrytis and the sterling minerality clarify this affordable bottling.
