It has intense aromas of cranberry sauce, red cherries and blackberries, plus nuances of wild fennel, amaro, underbrush and floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate has precise, tea-textured tannins, seamless freshness and a long, spicy finish. "This is a climate-change superstar," notes winemaker Jason Lett. The variety "has extremely wooly buds, which protects them," he continues. Giving up plenty of red and black fruits as well as violets, minty herbs, and hints of eucalyptus, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a balanced, concentrated, structured mouthfeel, fine tannins, and good acidity. Vineyard: The 2022 vintage is composed of 3 different vineyards from the southern end of Sonoma Valley and Carneros.  Los Chamizal is located at the foot of the Moon Mountain AVA, farmed organically and planted to clones 777, Mt. Eden and Wadenswil. Circle Bar Ranch is farmed organically, located at the southwestern corner of Carneros, and planted to clone 538 also known as Colmar clone. Leveroni Vineyard is fish friendly farmed, situated just a few miles south of the Sonoma square and planted to clone 828.

Vintage: A warm winter with below-average rainfall and a cool start to spring kept the vines dormant late into March.  Spring remained cool and brought moderate amounts of rain all the way to Memorial Day, keeping shoot growth fairly slow until early June. Mild summer weather contributed to slow fruit development until warmer August temperatures prevailed, pushing grapes to maturity quickly.  Harvest began on August 9th with favorable, temperate weather throughout the picking season.

Cellar: Vineyards were harvested between August 26th and September 9th. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel open top tanks with anywhere from 0 to 100% whole cluster inclusion, depending on the lot. The wine was aged for 6 months in 100% neutral and bottled on April 24th, 2023.

How this differs from a lot of other Howell Mountain Cabs is the balance. From the Duncan family of Silver Oak fame comes Timeless, a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant proprietary blend crafted by winemaker Nate Weis with grapes from the Duncan's Soda Canyon Ranch Vineyard. The site is a 113-acre ranch in the estate in the benchlands of the Vaca Mountains just north of Napa. The blend is rounded out with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. In 2020, this wine offers a fragrant, bright, and lifted nose with lovely red and black currants, savoury sagebrush, tobacco, and dried red florals with blood orange. Medium-bodied with a gorgeous tapestry of crunchy red cranberry, plums, and cherry. Crushed stone mineral notes form a solid base from which baking notes of dark chocolate emerge. The tannins are persistent, building, and turn chalky as they resolve. This wine has plenty of acid grip and a beautiful, quiet intensity.
